This probably isn't news to most of you, but I've always been curious as to just when these merger talks were started...maybe it was posted and I missed it. Anyway, I just read something via Zack's Investment Services that Casey Cowell first called 3Com on Jan 16, 1997, and they met in person about a week later. (Both stocks were trading in the 65-70 at that point.) The merger was announced about one month after that.
