Cutting taxes now could well unleash inflation, and would threaten the progress we have made with regard to the deficit and Social Security. It would be an irresponsible act, that would pander to the ignorant and the selfish.

Bush, Sr. knew that raising taxes would be unpopular, but did so anyhow in what he believed to be the best interests of the country. That the ignorant and selfish turned on him because of this is no reflection on the man or his judgment.

GWB has learned from the "mistakes" of his father--he has pledged himself to do what is popular with his rightwing constituency, even when it is clear that such a course of action would be foolhardy.

I prefer the principled "loser" to the unprincipled candidate. Silly me.
