<<Oh, I get it. Just think nice thoughts. Then we'll all live happily ever after! >>

Robert, I am not thinking nice thoughts. What I am thinking is how during the great depression, there was not much violent crime, although people were starving and could barely feed their families.

Up until the 1960's broken families among black people were less common than among white people. Now about 73% of black children are born out of wedlock. White rate has rocketed too, but not quite that much.

What happened in the 1960's ? Well, does the "Great Society" program ring a bell? Govt stepped in to "help" people, and really screwed them up.

Again, street crime rates are at record lows right now but largley due to demographics- the crime-prone teen males and early-20s males are now very low in number. Crime will likely ratchet back up in coming years as the number of teen boys and males in their early 20's increases.
