John;

I just took delivery of a new Dell dimension xps 733 alomg with an HP 882c. The machine has a CD-drive, Cd-burner, and an nvidia TNT geforce video card, etc, etc.

The upgrade from Win 98 Se to Win 2000 Pro took just over 25 minutes, and I'm happy to report that it found a driver for every single piece of hardware on the system.

I'm currently running office 2000, adaptec ez cd creator, links ls 2000, age of empires, and Sierra's Pharoh, again all with no problem. I did have a problem with my old version of Norton antivirus, and with Red Storm's Rogue Spear.(that's why I keep 98 around)

Yes, Windows 2000 Professional is targeted at the business user, but as djia101362 points out, you can certainly run it home.(or at least dual boot it)

Just an FYI.
