There was a funny piece in the NY Times (I believe today, but it might have been on Sat of Sun) about a reporter that tracked down the buyer of her mother's bridge for its gold content, which was sold on Ebay. It's true value is what the market says it is on any given day or moment in any given place. Kinda like asking what's the value of potable water.
