*OT* Computer Associates to Set up Indian Portal Through JV

Tuesday, February 22 8:07 AM SGT

NEW DELHI, Feb 22 Asia Pulse - The Indian subsidiary of the US-based Computer Associates (CA) is planning to set up a portal in the country through a joint venture (JV) as part of its global strategy to foray into e-business in a big way, a top company official said here.

"We are planning to set up a portal soon. But, then we would not like to come directly but through some JV with some established company in the business," Venkat Subbarao, Managing Director of CA (India), told PTI Monday.

The US$6.3 billion company, provides infotech consultancy and venture capital support to infotech start-ups, apart from software developement for its global clients.

CA will hold majority stake in the portal business which might be either 70:30 or 60:40 and would look for further expansion in the business later on, Subbarao said.

Subbarao, however, declined to give any details about the investments the company would be making in the new venture.

"CA had promised to invest US$100 million in the country to set up development centres and facilities. We are already half way through with the investment and more would be pumped in if needed," he said.

The company's strategy now is to focus more on e-commerce and it has geared itself up to meet the competition globally, Subbarao added.

"We deliver end-to-end infrastructure to enable e-business through innovative technology and are looking to make our presence felt in the area," he said.
