I'm not convinced Sun is doing anything less than the best that can be expected of them, given the unavailability of production systems and the tools with which to do "optimization." It's hard to optimize for systems that don't exist, and any attempt to do so can lead to nasty surprises when the actual shipped systems perform very differently from the simulators and prototypes. Furthermore, the article I read complained primarily about Sun not recruiting application developers, and I'm not convinced that's their responsibility. I haven't particularly seen Intel pushing Solaris as an application platform. Maybe if they did so, there would be more applications available.

I think Sun is being scapegoated as a diversion.

But that's JMHO.
