If you seriously believe that the cost associated with digging up gold from the ground is what makes it a store of value (what about the cost of running the mint to produce the paper currency, BTW?) then your economic sophistication is no better than that of a five year old, who, on first understanding the concept of money, immediately wonders why the Govt. doesn't print enough to make everybody rich!

But I guess everyone on this thread already knew that.
