Re: futility of opening up 35 million lines of code. I remember reading about MS's build procedure. They rebuild and test the entire O/S using an automated procedure that does an enormous amount of regression testing. I doubt if this kind of extensive testing would be done by any "outside" developer of an "open" xxxdows O/S.
