Correction: I meant to say that shorting CBMI (not CMGI) might be quite risky at this point. It seems that the Paul Allen investment in one part of the Curis trio of companies, Ontogeny, as of December 7, 1998 is the sort of backing that propels internet stocks to large opening gains for their IPOs. Although the new Curis may not require an infusion of cash at this point, it may be a good time to sell some new stock to establish Curis as somewhat of an IPO and to therefore establish a new pricing structure for the stock. Otherwise, the Curis stock will just be priced as a multiple of the CBMI per share price based on the percentage of Curis that CBMI represents. Perhaps that is the plan all along except for the fact that CBMI is already trading as a publicly held company. The logistics may get complicated as we approach the point at which the Curis shares are distributed. It might actually be better to take CBMI private first and then issue the new Curis shares as an ipo. Hopefully these guys have it all worked out better than I do <G>.
