Novell Acquires PGSoft, Inc.

PROVO, Utah, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL - news) today announced its acquisition of PGSoft, Inc., a privately held developer of system software located in Pacific Grove, Calif. Through this acquisition, Novell© obtains technology and expertise to expand its leading portfolio of Net services software products. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

``PGSoft brings to Novell an experienced staff and strong technologies in file system interfaces and protocols,' said Kent Erickson, Novell vice president of new product initiatives. ``We have an exciting opportunity to build on our core competency and deliver next-generation Internet file services. These services will complement our development work on advanced file sharing services with recently acquired JustOn.'

Novell will integrate PGSoft operations with its In-the-Net Services group.

ps-My question is: Can and should NOVL remain independent going forward... ...At $10B market cap, NOVL would be a pretty big bite for any acquirer.
At $162+ B (SUNW, ORCL)& $199+ B(IBM)market caps, NOVL would be nothing but a morsel.
