Why? Because he wants to? What if Carl Lewis' kid has no interest whatsoever in running? He'll be at the video arcade with all the other kids.

But you are right in that the advantages of birth are substantial. All I'm saying is that there are a wide range of conditions, though, even from one wealthy family to another. ie how much the parents make their kids "earn" things in life v. handing it to them

Re welfare dependancy, there are many regs for welfare that make it tough for people to get off it, such as not allowing the father to live in the same household with the children in order for AFDC elgibility. Stuff like that makes me nuts- just perpetuates poverty and reliance on the welfare.
