I don't think Jobs is the answer. I'm not a Jobs fanatic. I agree with Gil Amelio....most of the groundwork for AAPL's current situation was set by him. Jobs added the style and flash at a point in time that nobody could. Marketing was the key. AAPL would likely have done well without Jobs, but it did better with him. I see the same here. Capellas is good. Would someone else be better? Maybe, but I don't see who you could get. It's like the CFO situation. You want the best, but the best is damn hard to get right now. I can attest to this. My company can't hire anyone because there is nobody out there. The job market is too tight, and everyone wants ridiculous signing bonuses/pay packages/options. If CPQ continues at this level for one more year, I'd say Capellas has done an adequate job....not a great job. At least his moves prevented the company from completely tanking. Still, when I consider my AAPL investment...after the first year, that's about all you could say for Jobs. Capellas needs time....and I'm an investor, not a trader.
