If that is all, I can somehow guess how they do it. Remeber the PSN ? Just kidding, it is quite easy to generate a unique number for each copy of software installed. Microsoft have the for years in their OS and I believe Office too. Remembered how the Melisa(?) virus are being traced back to the author ?

What I don't know is how would they know if my copy is paid or not before they give me the 'unlock' key.
