I should clarify that quip about the leonids. The risk of a satellite getting fried from radiation due to a solar storm is, in my opinion, a little more real that getting hit by an micro-meteorite. Unlike the micro-meteorite risk, there have been cases of satellite losses due to electromagnetic storms.

But it isn't that the 11 year Solar cycle is a complete surprise to those who design satellites. And the nominal environment can be pretty nasty without any help from the peak Solar cycle.

Bottom line: IMHO, there are a lot of more worthy places to focus your paranoia on.

FWIW: Here's alink for "Space Weather"
