Rockwell to Sell Colorado Springs Facility to Intel

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Rockwell (NYSE: ROK - news) announced today that it has signed a letter of intent to sell its one-million-square-foot silicon wafer fabrication facility on approximately 60 acres in Colorado Springs, Colo., to Intel Corporation. Terms of the agreement were not announced. It is expected to close later this spring.

''We are pleased to have reached agreement with Intel, a world renowned technology leader, on the sale of our Colorado Springs facility,'' said Mike Barnes, senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer. ''We believe this transaction is an excellent one for all parties involved -- Rockwell, Intel and the Colorado Springs community.''

Rockwell purchased the Colorado Springs plant from United Technologies Microelectronics Center in 1995 and expanded the site to include new fabrication and support facilities.

Rockwell is a $7 billion electronic controls and communications company with global leadership positions in industrial automation, avionics and communications, and electronic commerce. The company employs approximately 40,000 people at more than 450 locations serving customers in more than 80 countries.
