Dear Charles: To top it off, I understand MOST stocks are at least 30% off their highs, its only the few bell ringers that have held the averages up. Also, I understand not only is inflation benign, but if you subtracted fuel and tobacco costs I think prices are actually declining. Finally, it appears growth itself is sliding down somewhat and AG has raised the target somewhat. So it looks to me as though a meeting of the minds is occurring. So, I would be a little surprised if any more than 1 more 1/4 pt increase occurs, despite what the media likes to say. I still maintain though that in reality interest rates should be dropped not raised and through repayment of the public debt REAL interest rates probably will. JDN
