I'm trying to put together a 600MHz Athlon system
and I have question about the type of memory to use. Currently, pricewatch listed $65 as the lowest for generic 128MB PC-100 SDRAM but the vendors' website listed them as "Not Athlon capable". The differences as far as I could tell is the CAS latency of 3 instead of 2 for the more expensive SDRAM. Also the number of layers is 4 as opposed to 6 for the low noise type.

Has anyone been successful in using these cheap SDRAM modules in their Athlon systems? AMD's website listed CAS 3 as "mandatory" and CAS 2 as "preferred" so I wonder if the more expensive SDRAM is absolutely neccessary. They cost almost twice as much as cheap ones. TIA
