Relay Point Selects Redbacks' Subscriber Management System for Deployment of Broadband Services SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 22, 2000-- Los Angeles-Based Service Provider to Enter Nation's Largest Markets by March 2000 Redback Networks, Inc., (Nasdaq:RBAK) today announced that Relay Point is using its Subscriber Management System(TM) (SMS) for the deployment of digital subscriber line (DSL) services for residential and commercial customers. Deployment is scheduled to launch by March 2000 in four of the largest United States markets: New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and San Diego. Today, Relay Point is one of the largest wholesale providers of DSL access in the nation. Relay Point is using Redback's SMS as a turn key solution for DSL subscriber management, as well as for switching Layer 2 circuits to larger customers. As the company is planning to rapidly expand its broadband initiative nationwide, it is leveraging the SMS' ability to easily provision subscribers and deploy new services. In addition to broadband access, Relay Point is planning to leverage the Redback SMS' unique ability to securely deliver premium content to its DSL subscribers via co-locating servers with its SMSes. "Redback's platform scales to thousands and thousands of subscribers," said Douglas DeStafeno, president and CEO of Relay Point. "We have tested other subscriber management products and had performance issues after only 800 subscribers. With the explosive growth of DSL, particularly in large metropolitan areas, we need a technology partner that delivers carrier-class, scalable subscriber management solutions." "Service providers with an eye to the future know that a network must have the ability to scale as the demand for broadband access and IP services grows," said Larry Blair, vice president of marketing at Redback. "Relay Point is rapidly moving towards a nationwide deployment of service, and the Redback SMS gives them the ability to meet this important window for expansion." About Relay Point Inc.
