NetWorker 5.6 and Celestra Power 1.1.2 Eliminate Need for Backup Window in Traditional Direct-Attached Storage and SAN Environments
Legato(R) Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGTO.O), the leader in enterprise software solutions for achieving information continuance, announced the release of Legato NetWorker(R) 5.6 and Celestra(tm) Power 1.1.2. This combined solution extends Legato's leadership in live, serverless, LAN-free backup for direct SCSI or fibre-attached storage environments and Storage Area Networks (SANs). NetWorker 5.6 has an added Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) component to interface with Legato's unparalleled Celestra technology, plus the full performance, functionality and support of Legato's market-leading NetWorker product. When the technologies are combined, data protection becomes transparent to end-users as the enterprise environment and server performance are free from the impact of backup and restore operations. Organizations now can achieve 24x7 high-performance application availability and fail-safe protection of their storage assets without affecting users or the performance of the network. This solution eliminates the need for a backup window and expands Legato's leadership in the serverless backup arena. "Protecting vast, ever-increasing amounts of storage and meeting rising service level requirements are difficult challenges for today's global, e-commerce business environment," said Henrik Holm, CEO of Proact IT. "This extremely powerful solution allows our customers to regain hundreds if not thousands of hours in productivity that are generally lost during backup operations." Celestra Power 1.1.2 is the first solution that offloads valuable LAN, CPU and server I/O resources during backup and restore operations. Data is moved at a block level directly from disk to tape through the publicly available third-party copy specification at ultra-high speeds. Using advanced snapshot technology, backups are completed live with no user lockout or system interruptions. Data can be fully protected (and restored) in conventional direct SCSI- or Fibre-attached storage environments or SANs, at any time and as often as needed, without impacting application or messaging network performance. "With NetWorker and Celestra Power, our customers can significantly reduce the cost of downtime and data loss to their business," said George Crump, vice president of sales and marketing for Vangard Technology. "And because an IT organization no longer needs to choose between information access and information protection, it will virtually change the way the companies do business." "Customers are demanding this kind of functionality to maximize performance and productivity," said Nora Denzel, senior vice president, Legato Systems. "Now Legato customers worldwide can combine the power of Celestra with the comprehensive, heterogeneous storage management performance of Legato NetWorker to achieve information continuance in their enterprise." This announcement adds to the leadership of Celestra as a standard for data movement in storage area networking environments. Additionally, it extends the power of the more than 50 members of the Celestra Consortium by adding products that can be integrated into complete SAN solutions that benefit customers today.
