Why eight? Are we guilty of rampant cubism perhaps? The idea that a sphere is really a prepubescent cube? Perhaps the Ancients on high-dose Amanita sp. envisioned a tetrahedron. Four corners. Then there's an octahedron with six (and they ain't corners so much as VERtices,) eeber yabble yabble.
