WTO body rules against U.S. export system-sources
WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - In a decision that could strain U.S.-European trade relations, the World Trade Organization (WTO) appellate body ruled that a U.S. tax program affecting hundreds of billions of dollars of U.S. exports violated international rules, trade sources and industry groups said on Wednesday.
The ruling was a major victory for the European Union, which launched the WTO dispute alleging that the 16-year-old U.S. Foreign Sales Corporations (FSC) scheme amounted to a $2.5 billion a year export subsidy to U.S. firms, with Boeing Co. and Microsoft Corp. among major beneficiaries.
