You are right, taking a big loss can mess with the mind and make you a lot more skeptical, but the benefit is we have that experience, first hand that you can loose a pile of money, no matter how good a story seems to be. Reading stories about people losing money is not the same. You have to feel it first hand. Murphy was right, what can go wrong will. Anything can go wrong in the market, and it usually does. Armed with this knowledge / experiance should help us to be more cautious in the future.
