How many longs will hold if the next rumor moves ATHM 20 points?

Optimum Online has self install- Why cant @home do it? This is starting to make me angry. optimumonline.com
Self-Installation for Beginners You don't have to be a techie to take control of your installation. How soon do you want to get online with Optimum Online? Now it's whenever you say. Just stop in at THE WIZ to sign up and buy your cable modem. A sales associate will see that you get everything you need to do it all yourself, even if you've never installed hardware on your computer before. There may be a network device to buy, probably a length of cable, plus a $9.99 self-installation kit. If you can follow simple instructions, you can be surfing the same evening. There's even a step-by-step video on the whole process.
The main idea: Cable+modem+software = you're on! Getting on line with Optimum Online starts with cable. You need to connect to the same cable network that goes into your TV. Look and see if there's a cable outlet in your home near your computer. If it's close by, that part is a snap. If it's farther, you'll need to buy a big enough length of cable to reach your TV. If the wiring part of this job feels impossible, it's not! For a $30 fee, a Cablevision technician can come and put an additional cable outlet right near your computer. (It's $50 if you have no Cablevision connection in your home to start with.) But most likely you can do it yourself easily and save.
The next part of the job is about connecting the cable to your new modem and your new modem to your computer-mostly just plugging parts together. If you bought your computer recently, you may be able to use a simple connector that fits right to a port already on your computer. Or you may need to install a Network Interface Card. The instructions in your self-installation kit tell you step-by-step just how to do it and how to make sure you've done it right. And there are support numbers to call if you get stumped.
And finally, you'll need to load the appropriate software. If you can put in a CD and follow straightforward instructions on screen, you can get on. Help??? If you get stuck, there's help available on the phone, from Cablevision as well as from the hardware manufacturers if that's where your problem lies. We'll point you in the right direction. And if necessary, you can even have a Cablevision technician come over and do that part of the installation for you for another $120. Incidentally, help with installation after you try it yourself costs exactly the same as ordering professional installation up front--$150 in all for current Cablevision customers. So you might as well give it a try first and see how you do. Chances are you'll have fun with it and be done in about an hour. |
