CIOs Name Bill Gates Most Admired Industry Leader

Survey Identifies Top Tech Role Models

MENLO PARK, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Whom do information technology
executives admire most in their field? In a recent survey, industry luminary
Bill Gates topped the list by a wide margin. Thirty-seven percent of chief
information officers (CIOs) polled cast their vote for Gates, chairman and
chief software architect for Microsoft Corporation. Michael Dell, chairman
and chief executive officer (CEO) of Dell Computers, followed with 19 percent
of the response.

The survey was developed by RHI Consulting, a leading specialized
consulting firm that provides information technology professionals on a
project and full-time basis. It was conducted by an independent research firm
and includes responses from 1,400 CIOs from a stratified random sample of U.S.
companies with more than 100 employees.

CIOs were asked, "Which one of the following people do you admire most in
technology?" Their responses:

Bill Gates (Chairman and Chief Software Architect, Microsoft) 37%


Michael Dell (Chairman and CEO, Dell Computers) 19%


Steve Jobs (CEO, Apple Computer) 9%


Linus Torvalds (Linux inventor) 7%


William Hewlett (Co-founder, Hewlett-Packard) 5%


Scott McNealy (Chairman and CEO, Sun Microsystems) 3%


Larry Ellison (Chairman and CEO, Oracle Corporation) 3%


Other/Don't know 17%


Total 100%

Other highly regarded IT industry executives identified by the CIOs polled
included Marc Andreeson, co-founder of Netscape; John Chambers, president and
CEO of Cisco Systems; Eric Schmidt, chairman and CEO of Novell, Inc.; and
Andy Grove, chairman of Intel Corporation.
