LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) - British palm-top computer group Psion Plc said on Thursday it was implementing U.S. Citrix Systems Inc's independent computing architecture (ICA) on the Symbian platform.

Symbian is a joint venture between Psion and several leading cellphone industry giants developing next generation equipment. Psion said ICA was the emerging industry standard for server-based computing.

Psion Enterprise Computing's commercial director Claes Bergstedt said the announcement "really opens the gates for mobile e-business strategies. Support for Citrix' ICA lowers the barriers for customers that want to go mobile."

Citrix iBusiness vice-president Chris Phoenix said "Psion's incorporation of ICA in its mobile devices strengthens our strategy of providing digital independence by enabling users to access business-critical information from any device, anywhere in the world."

Psion shares were 5.3 percent higher at 55.00 peounds in early trading, valuing the company at just under four billion pounds.
