MONTREAL, CANADA, February 24, 2000. NSI Communications Inc. ("NSI") received an order from the Ministry of Railways ("MOR") of China valued at over $5.2 million. MOR will utilize NSI's advanced satellite solution to provide a wide range of telecom services including information management, broadband access and video conferencing.
This contract is for the expansion of MOR's current VSATPlus II network. Their present network provides voice, data and videoconference communications among 15 fixed stations and a rapidly deployable mobile station. The order will expand MOR's network by 41 additional stations and also includes an upgrade to NSI's newest voice compression module, resulting in significant savings to MOR.
NSI expects to deliver this order during the second and third quarter of this year.
"MOR selected us for this expansion because our system is the perfect fit for their requirements and our team did a great job implementing the first phase of this network," commented John Barkwith, NSI's Director of Business Development for China. "China will continue to implement wireless telecommunication systems to meet its growing demand and we will work hard to get a fair share of this business."
NSI is a leading international provider of full-meshed VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminals) networks allowing for the satellite-based transmission of telephone, data and video. VSAT networks provide organizations, which have geographically dispersed locations, with efficient and secure communication facilities in areas of the world where conventional telecommunication infrastructures are lacking. NSI's VSATPlus II TDMA-DAMA technology is particularly well suited for complex private networks, telephone trunking applications and multi-line rural telephony. NSI also provides turn-key satellite communication systems solutions, ranging from single earth stations to complete national and international telecommunication networks. NSI supports it worldwide customer base from its offices in Canada, United States, Mexico, China and Indonesia.
NSI currently has 44,180,507 common shares outstanding, which are quoted for trading on the Canadian Dealing Network under the symbol "NSII".
