"Intel fires another round against Digital Equipment
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp filed a counterclaim against Digital Equipment Corp. this week and charged the company with violating 14 Intel patents. The move follows a patent-infringement suit involving microprocessors that Digital filed against Intel earlier this year. The patents covered by Intel's recent suit relate to technologies such as microprocessor design, thermal management for portable computers, and manufacturing methodology.

Digital's original suit, filed May 12, accused Intel of violating 10 patents. Intel first responded with a countersuit in June that claimed Digital was holding confidential documents related to Intel's upcoming microprocessors.

Digital has since agreed to return the documents."
