But one basic question. From what I see LON is tied together by wires. What is the wireless aspect - if any?

At this time I don't believe there is any. All controls within a building are all hard wired and all buildings on a campus are hard wired together.

There are some sensors that transmit temperature and signals wirelessly but I don't beleive it's via Lonworks.

I don't think wireless will be a big issue here unless you are retrofitting a very old building where pulling wires would be very cost prohibited.

Or am I misunderstanding the question and are you refering to accessing a Lon network via a wireless device.
