Mr. Cliff James reports
Karen Gimbel has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Gimbel
Vision, effective Feb. 24, 2000.
Cliff James, chairman of the board, says: "I have known Karen professionally for more
than 10 years, and have every confidence she is the right person to lead GVI into the
new millennium. She has a clear understanding of what it will take for GVI to succeed
in a demanding and ever-changing marketplace, as well as the vision, dedication,
courage, and passion to make it happen."
As an active member of the GVI senior management team, Ms. Gimbel has gained a
wide range of experience with the company, having held a series of successively more
responsible positions over a period of 11 years. In her most recent position as
vice-president, public affairs, she was instrumental in developing GVI's marketing
strategies.
She replaces Glenn Gimbel, who is leaving the company to pursue other interests, but
will provide transitional services. He will also remain on the GVI board of directors.
"Glenn has made an important contribution to the organization," says Ms. Gimbel. "He
has successfully positioned GVI to meet the challenges facing the refractive surgery
industry.
"I'm excited about the future, and I'm looking forward to working with GVI's board as
we implement strategies to create value for our shareholders. We're very much
committed to corporate growth, and in view of the dynamics of the refractive
marketplace, we will re-evaluate our strategic business plan to leverage our core
competencies."
