dismantling Echelon...

Richard,

Forget it... it's a non-issue. They would love to have us take the system down, except for the fact that we oftentimes share the intelligence we gather with various European intelligence agencies.

Besides, it is WIDELY KNOWN by those who practice the "black arts" of intelligence gathering, that it has been the French, who have been particularly guilty of economic espionage.

You see, the French have NO law that prohibits them from undertaking corporate espionage, since Airbus is a govt entity. And you'll find most other nations aren't shy about using their govt SIGINT and HUMINT assets to collect corporate against US companies.

The problem is that we have a law that states that our agencies can't collect intelligence for US companies, nor share it. Now that doesn't mean it doesn't happen because it could easily be a rogue operation by a govt employee. But to take such a chance and be found out is probably not a risk they are willing to accept there at Ft. Meade.

Why else do you think that NSA is the largest, but the quietest agency in the US govt?

Regards,

Ron
