Digital River Launches B2B Online Software Licensing

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24, 2000--

Debuts First Licensing Commerce System for Symantec

via Major Online Retail Stores

Digital River, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRIV), a global leader in e-commerce outsourcing, today announced a new B2B software licensing commerce system and its first implementation by Symantec. The new licensing system allows software publishers to offer volume licensing to businesses via an online configurator. By making the password-protected online ordering system available via major online retailers, software publishers can sell volume licenses via the Internet.

Digital River's first client to offer licensing is Symantec who recently extended their software commerce agreement with Digital River to include volume licensing. The Digital River-developed licensing configurator will allow Symantec resellers to sell software licenses to its business customers online.

"We've experienced great demand from our business clients for an online licensing option," said Mike Flanagan, director of e-commerce sales and marketing at Symantec. "We're extremely excited about our relationship with Digital River which allows us to be the first company out of the gate with an easy-to-use online licensing program. The licensing program is an example of how Digital River continues to help us find new ways to serve our customers via the Internet."

The licensing configurator is currently available through Digital River's retail network including Staples.com, Egghead.com, Download Warehouse.com, Cyberian Outpost.com and Zones.com. The new licensing system will provide a fast and easy process for small and medium sized business to buy software online.

"We are very excited to work with Symantec as our first licensing customer," said Jay Kerutis, executive vice president of software and digital commerce for Digital River. "Symantec is the first good example of how companies can use the Internet to better manage the software assets of small and mid-sized business clients. We're seeing great interest in licensing from our other software clients who see it as a great opportunity to grow their online software sales."
