uniView Technologies Introduces the Linux Based uniView 110; uniView Expanded Product Offering to Include Entry Level Set Top Box
DALLAS, Feb 24, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- uniView Technologies Corp. (Nasdaq: UVEW), a market leader in the field of interactive broadband services and innovative connectivity solutions, announced today the introduction of its new entry level set top box, model uniView(R) 110, which runs on the Linux operating system (OS).
This latest expansion of the uniView set top box product line helps the company address the growing demand for cost effective Internet appliances. The Linux based uniView 110 is specifically designed to address the requirements of the multilevel marketing business.
"The uniView 110 set top box utilizes the Linux platform and was created in a joint effort with specific marketing companies. The feature set and price point of the uniView 110 were the primary issues in addressing the needs of our multilevel marketing customer base," said Patrick Custer, President of uniView Technologies Corp. "Even though the 110 is positioned to be an entry level product, it offers robust features such as smart card security management, home banking applications, a fully featured browser which supports plug-ins for audio and video, e-mail, SSL 3.0 compliant technology, a built-in microphone, printing capability, a simple user interface, open ISP model and a new compact size."
"The uniView 110 was developed to provide a versatile platform with an easily modified graphic user interface, allowing for multiple uses, in multiple markets. Even though the platform provides for 'open' connectivity, uniView anticipates supplying the ISP service, as well as maintaining portal sites for e-commerce transactions," said Tom O'Mara, President of the uniView Products Group. "This new approach should dramatically increase our annuity income due to the large target market of multilevel marketing organizations. A large sales force is inherent to most multilevel marketing organizations and the acceptability of these types of products is greatly enhanced by the one on one sales concept."
Dallas based uniView Technologies Corp. has four business units: Advanced Systems Group, Network America, uniView Softgen and the Products Group.
