Leigh, Hi!!
RE: In the end, high-volume PC producers, including even Dell, will have to follow the market-segmentation strategy of their patron saint (and master) Intel, which is trying to compensate for cheaper chips by selling more high-powered models used in corporate servers and engineering workstations. So far, that balancing act has helped keep Intel growing, even as PC prices plunge. For PC makers contemplating a plunge into ultracheap, low-margin information appliances, having a high-end server and workstation business could prove to be a crucial determinant of their continued success.
Andy Grove has stated that currently there are only 5% of the servers on earth that will be required to run the world by 2004.....and all of these will definitely be obsolete... I think we have the physical evidence of what DELL plans to do currently in Round Rock....I have the photos....TWO facilities...Parmer and the other to my knowledge..."a footprint of Parmer" is next door and not currently named.....Well, these are so HUGE you'd have to see them to believe what I'm describing...but, here is a fact which I personally counted... The length of Parmer has 36 truck ports on each side......yes...yes...yes....Count em...I have the photos... Now, imagine the twin of this next door.... Then take into account the efficiency of what DELL can produce....And, why do we know DELL will get the business? I believe that the server ripoffs have been exposed and DELL will be rewarded...
