Unified Messaging Gets Cool By Brandy Pfalmer Posted on: 02/23/2000 CoolEmail.com Inc. (www.coolemail.com) is launching a unified messaging service called CoolEmail Unified that allows users to retrieve information from voice, e-mail or fax via the telephone. Users dial a personal toll-free number via the IP network to retrieve information from their e-mail, telephone, wireless phone or fax machine. Messages can be forwarded, deleted or replied to via the telephone. The service employs "voiceprint identification" to identify each user's voice, eliminating the need for passwords when accessing accounts. The service is made possible through text-to-speech technology from Lucent Technologies Inc.'s (www.lucent.com) research and development arm, Bell Labs Innovations (www.bell-labs.com) and the integration of proprietary in-house speech recognition software.
