slacker: In Japan DoCoMo has a Hobson's choice or that of Hamlet
.
DoCoMo can either try to put an WCDMA in place which is unique to itself and prior to the adoption of WCDMA standards by the world's standards bodies or cave in and go with CDMA which is rivals are using to pass them up on the outside of the race track as if they their horse is lame.

Not a good position to be in. And a difficult choice.

The biggest joke in the reporting about DoCoMo is that they are "leaders" in 3rd gen. Nothing is more laughable.

The WCDMA they may perhaps possibly have a year from now is slower in data speed than the CDMA One which its CDMA rivals started rolling out last January 7. No exactly a "leadership" position.

DoCoMo is hanging on by the skin of their teeth with "i" mode which is unique to Japan and can not compete with the CDMA One its rivals have in any way except as a toy for teenagers with attractive applications. Once CDMA One matches that, the game is over.

Best.
