Someone earlier proposed the KISS principle. Seems to me that the straightforward exploration job vouched for by the bre-x boys is the simplest explanation, and therefore the valid one.. I.e., no salting and that things are as presented by Walsh & Felderhof. All other scenarios are more complicated.
