RESEARCH ALERT-Medtronic price targets raised
CHICAGO, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Analysts raised their price targets on medical devices maker Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT - news) Thursday after the company reported fiscal 2000 third quarter earnings that were in line with estimates.

-- ABN AMRO raised its price target to $60 from $50 and reiterated its buy rating.

``Medtronic's product pipeline is one of the strongest in its sector,' ABN AMRO said in a research note.

-- Gruntal raised its intermediate price target to $54 from $45 and its long-term price target to $62 from $50, leaving both ratings at outperformer.

On Wednesday, Medtronic reported third-quarter net income before special items of $275.3 million, or 23 cents a share, up from $215.9 million, or 18 cents a share, a year ago. Earnings matched the consensus estimate posted by First Call/Thomson Financial.

-- Medtronic shares were up 1/4 at 48-3/4 Thursday.
