Wayne, Pennsylvania, Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Internet Capital Group Inc., an investor in electronic-commerce businesses, reported a fourth-quarter loss on higher expenses and wider losses at companies in which it holds stakes. The company's shares fell 11 percent.

The loss was $23.4 million, or 9 cents a share, compared with net income of $2 million, or 2 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 38 percent to $1.75 million from $1.27 million a year ago. The company had revenue of $7.19 million in the third quarter.

Internet Capital invests in companies that link buyers and sellers of goods and services on the Internet. The company said its revenue plunged from the third quarter because its stake in Breakaway Solutions Inc. fell below 50 percent, and it no longer includes the company's results on its income statement.

Internet Capital shares dropped as low as 106 in trading after the 4 p.m. New York close. They had fallen 1/8 to 119 1/8 in regular trading before the report. The shares have soared more than 19-fold since the Wayne, Pennsylvania-based company's initial public offering in August.
