Well, I'm no expert but after escaping from a Southern trailer park I spent most of my formative years in the Orient. I discovered two truths. We don't understand the Oriental cultural mind-set/ways and they don't understand the Western cultural mind-set and ways. I tend to think that for whatever motives the Chinese may have had in pursuing this ploy they didn't expect or anticipate the particular response/reactions generated. The U.S. reaction, both politically and market wise, did not further their cause and was a strategic mistake. Suspect they'll back up and try another tact to achieve whatever their specific/narrow goal is in this instance.
