Janitor?s Log ? February 24th, 2010

Starting my day, I wake. At my bedside rests my wireless laptop. Through voice activation, I jump onto the web and while shaving, I check weather, stocks and morning news (device #1). After showering, I reach for my personal phone (device #2) and call work to let my boss know that I have a 10:00 off site and will be a tad late to work. I jump in my car and in the center of my dash is my communication center (device #3) - (actually exists in the Mercedes RX300). I plug in the address to my appointment and GPS prepares my directions. While driving, I use the command center to call my client to ask if I should pick up bagels. While I drive to this appointment, there is no meter man coming to my house to check the gas gauge. Instead, a small wireless device automatically transmits the meter readings biweekly (Device #4). When I arrive to my appointment, I use a gidget to display new items, update inventory, forecasts, etc. with my client. Information is automatically transmitted to a central database and the order is booked (I will not count a device here, but we could imagine many different items that could be used for such an instance). When I get to work, my boss wants to take me to work. Because of traffic, we take a cab. I use my visa to pay the bill and the cabbie thanks us after transmitting the CC information on a wireless device. We decide to just get a hot dog at the kiosk and again Visa and a mobile wireless device allows me to pay without using cash. After work, I stop by the kids school to pick them up. As we drive home, Johnny is playing wireless video games with his friend Tim in Georgia on their gameboys and Susan is chatting with her girl friend (On her PDA) whom she just saw 10 minutes ago. In the grocery store, I can?t remember which kind of milk to get so I reach for my phone?.Opps, left it in my car. Oh well, just have to use my watch, which has voice activated, voice only capabilities (device #5). And so on?????..

Now Paul Jacobs or Salmasi could paint a much better and more insightful future than that because they are true ?wireless gadget visionaries?, but, what I just gave an example of was a VERY realistic typical lower to higher middle class person and how a sample day may be like in 5-10 years. There was not one example that I used that isn?t already being planned or already being implemented today. In short, in the year 2010, or 2005 for that matter, every car, computer, electrical gadget will be wireless enabled. Think about life 10 years ago. We used pay phones, computers were only for techno geeks and work, what was an internet and what was email? You had to wait until after 11:00 PM to make a long distance call and ATM machine was only at some select banks. So NOW begins my rant on this article:
