For small devices, the low pincount knocks a significant percentage off the cost of the processor/memory interface.

E.G. Sony PlayStation. Look how much the PlayStation retails for. Then consider that Playstation is Sony's biggest profit centre out of its entire product range. Think how much RDRAM it has in it and work out how much it would cost to buy that RAM if you payed the high street prices. Then you will realise that Sony is paying nothing like what you and I would pay for RDRAM.

The high RDRAM prices we are seeing at the moment are down to the RAM manufacturers creaming the profit from the early adopters in the PC arena. They do not reflect the cost of manufacture.
