Well, I meant it was a non-issue with regard to nations spying on nations. It certainly makes sense that the European parliament would view NSA and GCHQ cooperation as a threat to them, as well as a sign that Britain is "straddling the fence" with regard to joining the EC. And Echelon is a great tool to use in trying to divide the two nations. Britain is facing enormous pressure to join the EEC and distance itself from the US. However, joining the community also leaves Britain exposed to the financial liabilities that exist in Europe's social entitlement system, and they aren't too keen on picking up the tab for Germany's pensioners (since pensions are not standardized in Europe). I was talking to a British defense engineer the other day and we had the very same discussion about how it is quite possible that England may opt to tie itself together with the US and Canada, joining the American economic bloc.
