Kemble,
He was "Forward" but certainly not "Lucky", spent three months as a POW, the guards took his boots and he got a Purple Heart for frostbitten feet. He had only been in Europe for a couple weeks when that battle started. Actually he was lucky, one of the two guys he shared a blanket with on the march back into Germany to the POW camp didn't wake up one morning. Dad probably owes his life to the fact that the other guy was very big and generated a lot of heat. Dad had no memory of what happened to the guy that died until about five years ago when he started going to the reunions and was reminded by the big guy. He would never talk about the war until he went to that first reunion, now it only takes a little prodding.
