Thread, Using W2K Upgrade for Clean install rather than more expensive Full Version. Something from another news Group.

Question!

Hi all....I have a couple of questions:
1. In 1995 the state-of-the-art $3500 Gateway 2000 P5 133Mhz that came with Windows 95 on the HD. I have a Certificate, OEM #, and the Win95 CD. For the new system that I have received from XXXXXX and the new 25Gig HD ATA/66, I want to install Win2K. Can I buy the
Win2k UPGRADE version (cheaper) or do I have to buy the full version?

ANSWER!

In previous versions of Windows, you could do a "fresh install" of the OS with an upgrade version. When the installation program searches your hard drive for previous Windows, but doesn't find any, it will ask you where is
it? Switch the two CD's for a moment, point to the CD ROM
drive for the location of the old Windows, and when it says Okay, switch the CD's again, and continue the install.

I haven't tried it yet.
