Business Wire - February 25, 2000 10:15
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2000--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL) announced today it will transition its Austin Dell Factory Outlet (DFO) to the Internet and phone sales to extend its leadership in the e-commerce arena and streamline business operations.

As a Web infrastructure leader, Dell provides the tools for DFO customers to get the most of their online experience for refurbished Dell computers.

Dell's move offers DFO customers in central Texas and nationwide the convenience of shopping from home or work to receive DFO's famous discount prices on refurbished award-winning Dell computers. Customers can to shop online at www.dell.com/factoryoutlet and then place orders by phone at 877/IBUY-DFO or 877/428-9336.

The shift to an online store enables Dell customers living beyond central Texas to purchase refurbished Dell computers without traveling to Austin.

"Dell is also making it easier for Austin customers to shop the DFO," said Janet Mountain, vice president of Dell's consumer business. "DFO Online will give our loyal DFO customers easy access to refurbished computers at discounted prices on the Web and the convenience of browsing or buying anytime, from their homes or offices."

As part of the transition to an online store, Dell is adding its award-winning service and support offering to DFO computers, including the convenience of onsite service, home and office delivery, and Dell's standard limited warranty, which can usually be upgraded.

As part of the transition to an online DFO and consistent with the company's growing emphasis on Internet sales and service, DFO's physical storefront will close later this spring.

In Central Texas

The popularity and phenomenal success of the DFO with central Texas customers has proven the DFO concept. The Internet offers the ability to provide the DFO experience to customers nationwide. In appreciation of its local customers, the DFO will offer online coupons redeemable for free delivery in the Austin area for a limited time. Additionally, DFO customers buying Dell systems from May 1997 through May 2000 will continue to receive warranty services at 8801 Research Blvd. Demonstrations of the online store will be available at the Research Blvd. location.
