OT: depends on what you mean by "speaking the language", having enough to muddle through the day is really the degree zero of use of language (OK, I guess a notch above being a tourist...) International business really is conducted in english, and I'm fully skeptical about the viability of real time translation for anything but getting the most basic ideas across. Fortunately the success of videoconferencing won't hinge on the availability of translator programs!
