What nobody seems to notice is that MSFT Exchange is quickly taking the Enterprise messaging business. Outlook is the defacto email standard client (Notes is crap). MSFT is gaining momentum in the server arena. Exchange users will either move to Active Directory or get stuck on release 5.5. Thus the corporate preference for Exchange == Migration to Active Directory. THus, MSFT gains a major stronghold in the back office, and strengthens their desktop position. I say MSFT has no plans to become a Linux shop. In a year, they will have nailed down 25-50% of the corporate world to Exchange Platinum + Active Directory.
