First Alert was my very first scanning system in 1995. I left it only because I was more and more cognizant of the fact that I seemed to be the only one using it and once when I asked something of technical support they said 'We dont actually have that many clients that order so and so..." so I got scared away although I liked it even then. I always wondered why that tech support person said that.

I had no confidence in the choice after that, even though I chose First Alert at that time over all of them.. First of all what you tried at expo was on local data and not a direct feed from esignal.. second I don't scan the entire market but only do a scan of about 10-30 picks first half hour of trading and bring that up to about 40 throughout the day. Even 50 is pushing it.. On a slow day I 'delve' deeper into a second and third database of "oldies but goodies"..

Perhaps if I reversed the procedure and started with metastock and to to Telescan's prosearch I'd notice something slow.. right now Telescan's had many flaws of speed, but with Adelphias upload/download cable its much faster. Prosearch has conked out lately, but its still spectacular for me with my special scans. I'm sure there are better products now than prosearch 5.0 but I'm awed at how many stocks it finds... in say 16-17, you could find 4-5 or double digit gainers pretty much daily. The only difficulty is in dropping those 5-6.. and Choosing 10 (12 if you count the 1 or two earnings plays that become technical momentum plays but did not come off that particular search). It hasn't been any different 5 years ago or 5 days ago.

What does the real time scan is the e'signal that runs in the background, a datamanager. It has a separate file categores for 'end of day' and 'favorites' you must have looked at the "local data".. and not the 'data OnDemand' from Esignal.

Theoretically the exploration looks for any stock in the entire stock universe with your criteria, but I haven't done that yet. I'm still getting the explorations to where they are less 'overwhelming' and giving too many choices, so I have to fine tune the 'periodicity' (the time span of the chart) to the parameters I used for end of day explorations. Logically there should be no difference..
