Ref <Cyrix sold a lot of 486's and MediaGX parts. Their high end processors were crippled by a short pipeline and were not competitive in MHz. It was Jerry Roger's architectural philosophy that hurt the company more than anything >

Cyrix designs were almost as good as Intel, and had better design expertise than AMD at that time. Yet they were not a business success.

IMHO being fabless was the biggest problem. Cyrix did not have design resources to continue to fine tune the design (like Intel), and did not have the option of fine tuning the process. Thus the MHz also suffered. I agree that the short pipeline also contributed to the low MHz.

You will soon see the effect of process and design tweaks. Within a few months Intel will take the 700-733 MHz Coppermine to 1GHz and beyond. All due to a few design and process tweaks! Scumbria, design and process optimization tweaks are not a part of your experience, and you cannot understand it, and will continue to deny the possibility. I will not waste time arguing this issue. In a few months the evidence will be there for all to see for themselves.
